"We use old cars to save young lives"
Take the journey...
Kenneth Trotter Sr., the founder of Mach 1 Mentoring, has always loved cars since he was 10 years old. He learned automotive skills from his grandfather, and now shares his passion with the community. Kenneth, served on the Chicago Fire Department for 30 years and reached the rank of Lieutenant before retiring.
Mach 1 Mentoring focuses on teaching at-risk youth, young adults, women, and veterans basic auto mechanics up to automobile specialization. With a collection of cars for students to work on, they gain a well-rounded understanding of cars. Kenneth's goal is to help others learn marketable skills while passing down his love for cars to the next generation.
At Mach 1 Mentoring, we offer a diverse automotive mentoring program that caters to people of all backgrounds. Our goal is to change lives through hands-on learning. Whether you are new to cars or a car enthusiast, we welcome you to join our program. Anyone over the age of 16 who is eager to learn is invited to participate. Join us and discover the exciting world of automotive education!
Mach 1 Mentoring is achieving more with our initiatives than ever before. We aim to inspire and motivate students by fostering a sense of belonging, teamwork, and the value of education. At our auto shop we work on many exciting projects to help improve the lives of others, and are very proud of the progress we continue to make. We currently have several automotive program models:
Some of our students come into the auto shop with little to no tool knowledge. At Mach 1 Mentoring we educate them on the right tool for the job, along with its proper safe use. Simple math and reading skills are reinforced.
At Mach 1 Mentoring, our goal is to promote great opportunities for those in need. In our Basic Auto Mechanics instruction, our students get hands-on training in general automotive maintenance. With access to the right resources, people can become empowered by their abilities and gain the confidence to fulfill their potential.
Understanding of the automobile and the parts to make it work are discussed along with basic geometry. Specialization of automotive areas- interior, exterior, engine, and undercarriage are reviewed to give the student a direction of what they may have interest in. Hands-on in the auto shop is then given in the chosen auto area. Basic welding and painting along with auto body repair are also available for the student.
